What Is Blessing? | Psalm 1

Preacher:
Passage: Psalm 1
Service Type:

Introduction:
“O, the blessings of THAT man who does NOT walk wickedly” [v1]
1. BLESSING AND DELIGHT
God’s man or woman actually delights in God’s standards [v2]
Life is about reason, understanding and commitment.
This person has a firm grasp on the Revelation from God.
He asks, ‘What does the LORD want?’

Feeling comfortable with the ungodly leads to treating God as irrelevant.

Ephesians 2:1; 5:8, Colossians 1:21; 2:13
Delight in Jehovah’s Law “meditate in it day and night”
2. SUCCESS AND PROSPERITY
Like a tree which God plants by streams of water [v3]
Rooted firmly; yielding fruit; its “leaf does not wither”
This divinely planted tree is a picture of success.
Like the tree, all that the blessed one does “prospers”. Romans 8:28
The wicked, those who do not love God, nor honour him in his world
“are like chaff which the wind blows away” [v4]
Unbelievers use the phrase ‘blown away’ to describe
getting drunk, or an action movie, or rock band, or cricket test.
The contrast between believer and unbeliever is like the contrast
between a firmly planted, well watered tree and chaff blown away.
Satan’s great lie is, that there is no judgement.
[v5] “the wicked will not stand in the judgement”
those...- who have not laid their sin upon Jesus
- have no place among the righteous.
[v6] “God watches over the way of the righteous”;
The ungodly trust in riches and popularity
The Godly have their names written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
Riches and popularity blow away like chaff.
Are you waiting on the Lord and delighting in His purpose?
The godly person who has been struggled like Job, can say
“I know that you can do all things” Job 42:2
